There are always things I want as a photographer – a new lens; a new blanket; a new something. Photography is actually a very expensive hobby so it’s lucky I’m in business because today, quite unexpectedly, I found myself spending more money on lovely things for my clients (and me of course).
Ever since I was the littlest of girls, I was so into dolls and everything that came along with them (and I’m not talking Barbie). I’m talking ‘real babies’ with real strollers and clothes and nappies. I was a mummy way back from my earliest memories. Poor little ol’ Barbie sat in her big ol’ house meditating with Ken because that’s about the only person in my house who was interested in her. Anyway, I digress. When I was little I wanted a pram – I had prams of course, but I wanted a big, old fashioned white one with big wheels; something from the ‘olden days’.
Well, as I was strolling along today window shopping, as you do, I came across my dream pram. Now that I’m too old to play with it; and it’s a far too expensive play toy for my girls, I decided there must be a way to justify the expense and of course there was – my sweet little newborns would look divine in it.
So, I handed over my money and walked out with a pram for a prop and immediately rang my sister and told her I needed Scarlett on the double to test ride my new discovery.
Now Scarlett is one month old (can you believe that) in a few days and far past the age I like to photograph my newborns so I was a little worried. But she was good to me. So good to me! She slept so peacefully and allowed me to capture some beautiful images along the way.
As a rule, I’m not a huge prop user for my newborns. I like my hats, and some wooden buckets and bowls, but usually nothing this extravagant. Seriously though, Miss Scarlett looks like a sweet little doll, so delicate and beautiful. Sigh. How could I EVER resist the extravagance on this occasion!?.
