There are few times in my life where I’m lost for words as I am here, now, trying to write this blog post. I know the last time I posted a birth slideshow I was lost for words to accompany the slideshow and this time is no different. Sometimes, there are no words that do justice to the beauty of what it is your trying to say. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of leaving things unsaid. So, on that note, I will say welcome to the world little Kyle. You are wanted beyond words and a much fought after baby that I know will forever be one of your parent’s favourite things…

Remember Sugglepot and Cuddlepie? I do. Quintessentially Australian and totally adorable. I used to love the stories when I was young. It really is essential that I search around for the story books I had as a child and pass them on to my kids. Essential because when I asked Byron whether he knew the stories of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. He promptly replied “Huh!? Snuggleup and Partypie! What? Huh?“. Geez the kids of today. I need to pull my finger out and start educating them.

Anyway, I digress….the reason I mentioned those wee little characters was because the moment I saw the very first picture shown below, I immediately was transported back to my childhood. There really couldn’t be a cuter little Gumnut Baby. Surely not?

He was so teeny tiny, delicate and all things beautiful. It was such a pleasure spending a few hours with him and capturing some of his essence.

I say it every time but it is no lie. Every new little soul I meet is so untouched, exciting and beautiful. They are all uniquely different but they are all they same – they are loved beyond comprehension. It’s compelling to be around and part of the reason I love shooting newborns. The room is filled with a sense of calm, nervousness and happiness all at the same time. It is truly an amazing experience.

Little Charley, and her big ‘little’ brother were a delight as were their gorgeous parents. It’s one of my new favourite newborn sessions to date and I’m so happy to share it with you.

This is the second time I’ve had the pleasure of photographing the newest additions to this beautiful family. I photographed little Ivy as a newborn and 13 months on, I have had the greatest pleasure in meeting teeny, tiny little Elyse. Both gorgeous, divine little beings who are the apple of their parent’s eyes. Just like her big sister, Elyse was the most perfect of subjects making my job that little bit easier. Although unlike her big sister, she didn’t leave a mountain of washing in her wake. I was happy with that!

Most would agree its not easy summoning the energy to leave the house when your baby is 7 days old. I know. I’ve been there and done that myself. But as most would attest, there is all but a tiny window of opportunity to capture the essence of all things newborn, because within weeks they have grown, the fuzz has gone and you have forgotten just how small they really were. I was grateful to create these memories for this wonderful family and look forward to seeing them again sometime soon, because they make just the sweetest little babies!

Little babies always let me know what they like when I get to know them at our session. Sometimes, they like to keep their little fingers curled up just so, or are more content on their tummies. Some like to turn their heads in a certain direction and some like their legs nice and straight, just like Master Lachlan. He was a pike breech baby who was most content with his teeny little feet right up beside his head. Every now and then, he would stretch and straighten a little leg; reminiscing I suspect about the days of old. He was delightful in every way, and I very much enjoyed our cuddles.
