Day 2 {Brisbane Children’s Photographer}

This photo a day challenge, is where I embark on the epic, personal journey to take one photograph every day for the month of January, of the things that are important to me.

God help me. The child is three years old and insists on stealing her sister’s makeup (who is only six mind you – thanks for that Christmas present Nanna). Not to mention the jewelry. She can’t seem to get enough of that either. If you can count – there are six rings on four fingers, two necklaces and two bracelets plus a headband that is way too big for her head. She also insisted on two fairy hair clips, but I had to draw the line somewhere and they ended up in Lily’s hair.

Lily has always loved jewelry and she still does but she’s past six rings, five bracelets and twenty necklaces all at once. She’s more into the perfect piece of clothing rather than accessorizing. For her accessorizing is all about the hair. Don’t get me started on the hair. Goodness me if I have to put one more side pony in I’ll throw the brush away and retire from all things hair and leave it up to her to figure out. It was like pulling teeth to get those two cute plaits in her hair this morning.

I have girly girls. I do. And it’s great. Seriously, I love they love all things girly, but, I have to ask myself how on earth it came to be the way it is? What possess a three year old to plaster blue eye shadow all over her eyes (and thank god for black and white or you would be blinded) and lip-gloss and nail polish an inch thick? Why does the six year old feel the need to ‘strike a pose’ every time I attempt to take a picture? I’m sure there are reasons and my questions are more rhetorical than anything. It’s just, I do wonder how these gender specific actions come to be.

I guess I’ll take a step back and stop wondering and enjoy the show. It’s a good show really. Life is always interesting with these two.
